Getting Started
Creating your account
Wraita is free — no credit card required. To sign up, visit /app and click the Sign Up tab. Enter your name, email, and a password with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number.
After signing up, you'll receive a verification email. Click the link in that email, then sign in. Your account is ready.
Creating your first script
- After signing in, you'll land on the Home screen.
- Click New Project (or the + button).
- Give your script a title and click Create.
- You'll be taken directly to the editor. Start typing your first scene heading.
Interface overview
Toolbar
The top bar contains element type buttons (Scene Heading, Action, Character, etc.), the AI assistant trigger, export button, and collaboration panel.
Editor
The main writing area. Each line is an "element" — a scene heading, action line, dialogue line, etc. Click a line or use Tab/Enter to change element types.
Outline panel
The right sidebar shows a live outline of your scenes. Click any scene to jump to it. Toggle the panel from Settings or the toolbar.
Home screen
Lists all your projects. Switch between grid and list view, sort by date or title, and access project settings from here.
Editor Guide
Screenplay element types
Every line in Wraita has an element type that controls its formatting. Change the type using the toolbar buttons or keyboard shortcuts.
| Element | Format | Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Scene Heading | ALL CAPS, bold, e.g. INT. OFFICE — DAY | Ctrl+1 |
| Action | Full width, regular text | Ctrl+2 |
| Character | Centered, ALL CAPS | Ctrl+3 |
| Dialogue | Indented block below character | Ctrl+4 |
| Parenthetical | Centered, in (parentheses) | Ctrl+5 |
| Transition | Right-aligned, ALL CAPS | Ctrl+6 |
| Shot | ALL CAPS | Ctrl+7 |
| Note | Hidden in export, shown in editor | Ctrl+8 |
Scene headings
Scene headings follow the pattern: INT./EXT. LOCATION — TIME OF DAY. Wraita auto-suggests locations you've used before as you type. Press Tab to accept a suggestion.
Common time-of-day values: DAY, NIGHT, MORNING, AFTERNOON, EVENING, CONTINUOUS, LATER, MOMENTS LATER.
Auto-complete
Wraita remembers character names and locations from your script. When writing a Character element, it suggests names from your existing cast. Press Tab or Enter to accept.
Scene numbering
Toggle automatic scene numbering from Settings → Editor → Scene Numbering, or from the toolbar. Numbers appear in the left margin and update automatically as scenes are added or reordered.
Moving scenes
Drag any scene heading in the Outline panel to reorder scenes. The full scene content moves with it. You can also cut and paste scene blocks in the editor itself.
Page count
Wraita tracks an approximate page count shown in the toolbar. Screenplay convention is roughly one page per minute of screen time.
AI Tools
How to use AI assistance
Select any text in the editor, then click the AI button in the toolbar (or press Ctrl+Space). Choose an action from the panel:
- Grammar — fixes spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors
- Improve — rewrites the selected text to be cleaner and more vivid
- Dialogue — sharpens dialogue lines, preserving character voice
- Scene — generates or expands a scene from your selected text as a brief
- Proofreading — runs a full smart proofread and returns notes
Custom instructions
You can add a custom instruction to any AI request. Use this to specify tone, genre, or style: "Rewrite in a noir style" or "Make the dialogue sound more natural for a teenager."
Setting up your own API key
- Go to Settings → AI.
- Enter your API endpoint URL (e.g. your OpenRouter or OpenAI endpoint).
- Click Save, then Test Connection to verify it works.
Using your own key bypasses the shared rate limit and lets you use any model available on that platform.
AI rate limits
The shared (free) AI endpoint has a rate limit to keep the service fair for all users. If you hit the limit, wait a few minutes or plug in your own API key for unlimited use.
Privacy note
AI requests only send the selected text and a small surrounding context window to the model. Your full script is never sent. We do not log AI request content or use it for model training.
Collaboration
Inviting collaborators
- Open your script in the editor.
- Click the Collaborate button in the toolbar.
- Enter your collaborator's email address and choose their role.
- Click Send Invite. They'll receive an email invitation.
Collaborators must have a free Wraita account. If they don't have one, they can sign up at /app — it takes 30 seconds.
Collaboration roles
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full access: edit, delete, manage collaborators |
| Editor | Read and write script content; add and resolve comments |
| Viewer | Read only; can add comments but not edit content |
Using comments
Click on any line in a shared script to open the comment panel. Type your comment and press Enter. Comments are visible to all collaborators. The owner and editors can mark comments as resolved.
Real-time sync
Changes from all collaborators appear in real time. If two editors type on the same line simultaneously, Wraita reconciles the changes — last write wins. For important simultaneous sessions, coordinate who edits which scene to avoid conflicts.
Removing a collaborator
Open the Collaborate panel, find the collaborator's name, and click Remove. They'll immediately lose access to the script.
Export
Exporting to DOCX
- Open your script in the editor.
- Click the Export button in the toolbar.
- Choose your export options (scene numbers, title page).
- Click Export to DOCX. The file downloads instantly.
The exported DOCX uses Courier 12pt font, 1.5" left margin, 1" other margins, and standard screenplay element spacing — ready for submission.
Title page
Wraita generates a standard title page with your script's title and your account name. You can edit the contact information in the export options dialog before downloading.
Scene numbers in export
If scene numbering is enabled, scene numbers appear in the left margin of the exported DOCX. Toggle this in the export dialog.
PDF export
PDF export is in development and will be available with the Pro plan. For now, you can print-to-PDF from most word processors after opening the exported DOCX.

Troubleshooting
My changes aren't saving
Wraita auto-saves every few seconds. Check the save indicator in the toolbar. If it shows an error, check your internet connection. Wraita will save locally and sync when you're back online.
The AI assistant isn't responding
- Check your internet connection.
- Make sure you have text selected before clicking AI.
- The shared endpoint has a rate limit — wait a minute and try again.
- If you've set a custom API endpoint, test it in Settings → AI → Test Connection.
I can't see a collaborator's changes
Make sure both you and your collaborator are viewing the shared version of the script (found under Collaborate, not under your private projects list). Refresh the page if changes don't appear after 10 seconds.
Export is blank or incomplete
This can happen if some lines have no element type assigned. Check that every line in your script has a type (scene heading, action, etc.) — untyped lines may be skipped in export.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, click Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Offline mode isn't working
Offline support requires the service worker to be registered, which happens after your first visit. Visit Wraita while online, then go offline — your most recently opened scripts will be available.
